THE VILLAGE NAGRIJULI, AND BOGAMATI PICNIC SPOT
Located near the
Indo-Bhutan border, Bogamati lies entirely in the newly created Baksa district
in Assam.Covered with dense forest, and mountains this has become a
famous picnic spot for locals and travelers alike. Bogamati is
beautiful and is located on the mouth of Barnadi River. Its also
famous picnic spot on BAKSA for nature. The scenic view of the Bhutan
Hills is what attracts people to this place.
Bogamati, Assam Overview
Newly discovered
Bogamati is a picturesque spot perfect for picnics that lies at the mouth of
river ‘Barnadi’ on the foothills on Indo-Bhutan border, in the Baksa district,
Assam. Inaugurated by Emanuel Muchahary, MLA of Tumulpur, about six years ago,
the unexplored, panoramic view of the mountains creates a serene getaway for
travellers, couples and family alike.
‘Bogamati’ refers to a
white river in Assamese and derives its name from the vast deposits of white
sand and stone in the banks of the river. The place is inhabited by
Bodos, Assamese and Nepalese and is known for its betel plantations and Tea Gardens. The locals depend exclusively on tourism in the area for their
livelihood. The Dawraijhar Eco-Tourism Society is responsible for maintaining
the cleanliness of the area and safety of the tourists.
Activities at Bogamati
Shikhar Adventure Club
of Goreswar carries out the water activities in the region which commences at
around 8.00 A.M. and ends by 2.00 P.M. One can undertake ropeway river
crossing, river rafting as well as trekking in the unadulterated hill nearby,
after which one can enjoy lunch on the river bank.
The Shikhar Adventure Club has no proper online booking facility. However, visitors can book river rafting tour packages from other online sites, which usually starts at Rs. 2500 and can range up to Rs. 10,000 depending on the number of people and the packages you choose. Packages usually include pick up and drop off to your destination, meals as well as river rafting. A few packages also allow camping on site. Green Trek and Adventure too, provides a wide range of activities such as Whitewater Rafting, Paragliding, Cycling etc.

Things to Do
- One can trek to the golden Buddha statue on the nearby
hill, built by the Assam Government as a symbol of peace and to strengthen
ties with neighbouring Bhutan.
- One can also drive through the shallow river water to
Bhutan to enjoy the local delicacies. However, the entry gate to Bhutan
closes by 4.30 P.M.
Tips for Visitors
One must wear comfortable clothes and
footwear, carry an extra pair of clothes and towels, waterproof bag, basic
medications and first aid kit etc. Although it is quite safe, extra caution
wouldn’t kill as the place is known for wild elephants. Lastly, do not forget
to carry a camera to capture the beauty of the place!
Best Time to Visit
Although January and December witnesses crowd
due to the vacation season, November and February remain relatively peaceful.
How
to Reach Bogamati
Location: NC Sukla Bagan, Assam
781368, India. Although the nearest railway station to Bogamati is Khoirabari,
35.2 km away, the major city and railway station is Guwahati, about 91 km away
and takes 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach. The nearest airport if Guwahati
Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. It is best to take a cab/taxi service
from Guwahati and drive to Bogamati as the road is quite enthralling. Direct
public buses are available from Guwahati to Tumulpur, after which one can rent
a cab till the Bogamati picnic spot. However, it can be difficult to manage
public transport while returning and hence, it is advised to take a rental
while travelling to Bogamati.
